Landscape and Nature Photography from the North of Europe

Posts from the News Category

Every now and then I have the honour to write an article for another blog and today I’m happy to announce that my article “Mountain Sketches: Eine Projektvorstellung has been published on the famous German photography blog Kwerfeldein.

As you might guess already it’s written in German language, something that I do less and less these days and in it I introduce my Mountain Sketches project. So, if you read german I would like to invite you over to Kwerfeldein and have a look at the article.

Thanks again to Martin Gommel for giving me the opportunity and honour to contribute to his magazine.

I’m running this website now for a couple of years and it has been evolving ever since and now it’s about time for some more improvements and adjustments.

I don’t want to bore you with details, but to take full advantages of some of the more advanced features of this theme I will need to re-post or re-write some of my previously released content.

While I hope most of this to happen in the background, it might though lead to frequent updates in the RSS-feed. I try to aviod the latter as much as possible, but some things are beyond my control here.

Feel free to drop by at any moment to see what has happened here.

I few weeks ago I wrote about the exhibtion in which a few of my images are shown and so far the exhibiton went quite fine. Since it is still going on until the end of August there’s still some time to go there if/should any of you be in the area.

Also nice boon is that today an article was released the Kalelva Sunday edition about our exhibition. Those in the area here might be interested to have a look.

This surely raises the question on how to link to a newspaper article ;-)

Google+ is all over the news at the moment and just this morning I got into the service like out of nowhere. Think about the surprise! Not only was I expecting an email-invite, but also to have to wait for much more than one day. Well I don’t want to complain.

After little less than one day of using it, it is surely too early to say anything other than it’s beautifully designed and easy to use, as with all of these networks, it is the users and the interaction, which in the end make it useful or not.

As I’m not much of a Facebook fan I hope that Google+ actually will work out nicely in the long run. And yes.. I am aware that I’m a bit of a hypocrite here since I maintain also a FB-page. But truth to be told, I check-in on FB only in moments of utmost boredom, which happens not so often. If that, besides the early exiting times, will be different on Google + though, only time will tell (I know, I have used almost the same words when finally giving up on Flickr and moving over to 500px)

That all being said, you are welcome to follow or circle me on Google+, but still I think the best place to follow my activities is of course here on the blog and also on Twitter.

It’s time again for my second trip to Norway this year. It’s going to be a short again. I planned to visit the area of Senja and it’s surroundings as we visited there for the first time two years ago under not so fortunate weather conditions.

Looking at the forecast for the next few days it’s looking not much different this time though…

During those last two years I have learned quite a lot and now actually I’m looking forward to explore the are in conditions like that. After all I have made my personal favourite series of images, the Mountain Sketches, under less than ideal conditions. Naturally I can’t expect to find similar inspiration this time, but it’s sure worth a try and in a few days I will be definitely wiser.

If possible I will post a “postcard” from the road.

The other day I wrote about about a small exhibition which, amongst mine, features the work of Kai Tirkkonen, Jakkarin Kong-Iad and Lauri Lehenkari is coming up and now I’m pleased to tell you that it opened on the weekend.

The exhibition takes place in the Vanha Luotsiasema, a beautiful wooden building (like they are typical on this island) in Marjaniemi, Hailuoto.

In the case that any of you should be in the area feel free to visit.

Just the other day I was lucky to frame a few recently made prints for an upcoming small exhibition (more on that in an upcoming post) when I again realized how beautiful a freshly framed print looks like. There is just something about them.

In fact I haven’t been printing much recently but having the result of my work like this in my hands, is a good reminder for the why I’m doing all this. It’s also interesting to notice that my preferences for print sizes have changed quite a bit: a few years the prints I made were, quality aside, much bigger, but at the moment I find A4 sized to be more tasteful and stylish. Square prints look already great in a small size like 12x12cm. This of course has the benefit that they don’t use much space on the wall, and one doesn’t have to actually plan where to put a print. Just a thought.

I’m definitely looking forward to print and frame more images in the future. I will post a write-up on the progress of the exhibition once it’s time.

Some of you might already have noticed a change during the last few weeks and today I would like to use the chance to simply point you to my new galleries over on SmugMug.

As of this moment I have not yet all my images over there, which this is mainly to the fact that I started to reprocess a few of my older images. On the other side though I do have some images in there which recently were not yet in my galleries.

But now I don’t want to take too much of your time, and rather invite you over to my galleries and have a look.

Since the galleries are now hosted over on SmugMug the images are now displayed in relation to your screen size, the larger your screen, the larger the image. I actually hope you are sitting in front of a 24+ inch monitor, for some extra boost and for a better view onto forgotten dust spots ;–)
